Five ways to make any round harder
- 1
Turn the hint off
Without the category, the imposter starts from nothing. The single biggest jump in difficulty.
- 2
Ban the first thought
Before the clue round, the table names the most obvious clue out loud. Nobody may use it.
- 3
Shorten the timer
One minute of discussion instead of three. Fewer questions, more guessing.
- 4
Play Undercover App
The imposter gets a close word and may not know it. The hardest way to play, in the app.

From 7 players, two imposters who don’t know each other. Also in the app.

FAQ
About the hard words
What are hard words for the imposter game?
Words that are abstract (déjà vu, synergy), rare (pangolin, notary) or full of lookalikes (biathlon, layover). Civilians struggle to clue them without giving the game away, and the imposter has plenty of room to bluff.
Are hard words good for a first game?
No. Start with an easy list such as Food & Drinks or Animals, with the hint on. Switch to hard words once the table catches the imposter in the first round too often.
How do you make the imposter game harder?
Turn the hint off, ban the most obvious clue, shorten the discussion timer, or play Undercover, where the imposter gets a close word instead of a hint.
Where are the rest of the Pro words?
Each Pro pack shows 20 of its 120+ words on this site. The full packs, with Undercover pairs, are in the Imposter Club app.
